a flower is born (2021), 4'39"

Install shot by Jan Bernet

The short video shows a single shot of a female figure wrapped up in themselves amidst a messy chaotic scene, maybe the aftermath of a party or the lack of wanting to tidy up. The staging and colours riff off The Death of Sardanapalus by Delacroix and you can see the room is a constructed set. Untrustworthy images are not a new phenomena. I know it seems like a colossal waste of time to build these big sets, to film and photograph but there’s something about the light, texture and depth in working with this way that you can't get in CGI or VR.
